How Do I Choose the Right Bootloader and Installation Package?

When initializing your TNAS, if the device cannot connect to the internet or the online download fails, you need to provide the Bootloader and the TOS installation package manually. Both must match the TOS version of the current initialization page.

Online download recommended

During initialization, the latest Bootloader and TOS installation package compatible with your device are obtained automatically by default. Only when the device has no internet access or the online download fails do you need to download and upload the files manually as described in this article.

Step 1: Identify the Current Initialization Version

The layout of the initialization page varies with the Bootloader version currently on the device. The images below show TOS 5, TOS 6 and TOS 7 from left to right:

TOS 5
TOS 5 initialization page

A white two-column page, with "Initialization" on the left and a possible Bootloader loading failure message on the right.

TOS 6
TOS 6 initialization page

A dark blue background with a centered pop-up, and a gear icon in the upper left corner.

TOS 7
TOS 7 initialization page

A light blue gradient background with a centered card, and the TNAS logo at the top of the page.

Identify the version based on the page structure and layout, not on the page language, IP address or access port.

Step 2: Download the Files for the Corresponding Version

First confirm the CPU architecture of your device, then choose the Bootloader and installation package according to the TOS version of the initialization page. Do not choose by the file version number.

Note
  • x86 and ARM models require files of different architectures. Select the corresponding table based on "Compatible models"; do not mix x86 and ARM files.
  • After downloading, verify the file name, TOS version and model architecture. Do not mix files of different versions or architectures.
  • TOS 7 is still being updated. For the latest TOS 7 Bootloader and TOS installation package, refer to the TOS Download Center.
  • For models not listed above (such as the earlier F4-210 and F2-210), refer to the files provided on the corresponding model page in the TOS Download Center.

Step 3: Complete Initialization with the Matching Files

  1. On the initialization page, click "Start".
  2. If the page reports a Bootloader loading failure, click "Download" to download the file for the corresponding version, or select a Bootloader you have already downloaded and upload it.
  3. After the Bootloader loads successfully, select the corresponding TOS installation package.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete initialization, and wait for the device to restart automatically.
Note
  • The Bootloader and the TOS installation package must be from the same version and match the device's CPU architecture. Uploading a file of the wrong version or architecture may cause initialization to fail or the device to fail to boot.
  • Upload the original files directly. Do not rename, unzip or modify their contents.
  • Do not power off the device or refresh the page during initialization, otherwise the device may fail to boot properly.

FAQ

Can Bootloaders of different versions be used interchangeably?

No. The Bootloader must match the TOS version of the initialization page; Bootloaders for TOS 5, TOS 6 and TOS 7 cannot be mixed. Using the wrong version may cause initialization to fail or even prevent the device from booting.
