I. Reset Superuser Password
Applicable Scenario: Forgotten superuser account or password, unable to log in to the TOS system.
Steps
- Ensure the device is powered on and running normally.
- Press and hold the RESET button until you hear 1 short "beep" from the device buzzer, then release.
- Reconnect to the device and log in using the temporary account
admin(with an empty password) on the login screen. - After logging in, the system will guide you to reset your password.
Function Description
- This operation only resets the superuser password and will not clear system configurations, personal data, user accounts, or network settings.
If you have also forgotten your superuser account name, the default admin account can be used to log in after resetting the password. You can view your superuser account name on the reset screen after logging in.
II. Restore Factory Settings
Applicable Scenarios and Fault Symptoms: The device experiences abnormal power loss, or NVMe M.2 SSD or HDD failures cause the TOS system to malfunction and require reinstallation of TOS.
Solution
- NVMe M.2 SSDs do not support hot swapping and cannot be used to reinstall the system by directly plugging/unplugging the drive.
- In the event of HDD failure, there is no need to remove the HDD; you can reset the system directly using the existing drive.
Steps
- Power off the device (no need to remove the drive), and locate the RESET button according to your model:
- Models requiring cover removal: Use a screwdriver to remove the screws and open the side cover to locate the RESET button on the motherboard.
- Models without cover removal: Use a pin to press and hold the RESET button on the back of the device.
- Press and hold the RESET button (approx. 30 seconds), continue holding, and simultaneously briefly press the power button to start the device. Release after hearing three consecutive "beep-beep-beep" alerts.
- Use the TNAS PC client to search for the device again, clear your browser cache, log in, and follow the on-screen instructions to install a new TOS system.
Restoring factory settings typically does not delete hard drive data, but it is recommended to back up important files before proceeding. If the initialization screen displays prompts about "creating a storage pool" or "formatting" that indicate data deletion, please stop the operation and contact technical support.
What is the Difference Between Resetting the Password and Restoring Factory Settings?
Resetting the password only clears the superuser password while retaining system configurations and data; restoring factory settings completely resets the system and requires reinstalling TOS.
